BARK BASKETRY
Inspired by the Appalachian Cherokee Indian Traditions, I harvest Tulip Poplar Bark during the 4-6 week span in late Spring when the sap is running strongest through the tree. Each log is cut and hand-peeled, with the shape of each basket more or less dictated by the specific section of the log and any natural markings or embellishments it may have in it's skin. Then I shape, stitch, and finish each basket by hand, using mother earth's bounty for detail and decor.
